History

  • Upward Bound was established at Dixie State College in 1983.
  • Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Higher Education Act.
  • Upward Bound serves 95 students during the academic year and about 55 during the summer component.
  • Upward Bound provides fundamental support to their participants in their preparation for college entrance.

The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

The goal of Upward Bound is to provide guidance, resources, experiences, and support during high school for students to successfully enter and graduate from college. Students develop the necessary skills by attending the seminars, weekly meetings, and program activities.
