Mace Jacobson joined the TRiO Student Support Services team as an academic advisor and tutoring coordinator in January of 2012. She has spent 15 years working with students in the Student Services arena at Davis Applied Technology Center in Kaysville, Utah, and at Dixie State College. Mace is committed to helping students discover and develop their strengths and passions toward academic success.
Mace earned an Associate’s Degree from Dixie State College and then attended Utah State University and Southern Utah University as a Theatre Arts student. She spent 10 years acting in repertory theatre companies and guest directing. She married fellow thespian, Matt Jacobson, after spending a summer in a repertory theatre company together. They raised four children and shared many happy years before Matt’s passing in 2008.
Previous to her work in student services, Mace spent 10 years in the banking industry before becoming interested in education. At that point she enrolled in the Southern Utah University education program. When her family moved to Salt Lake City, she never made it back to school — even though she was a senior! For three years she put her teacher education knowledge to work at a learning center instructing and creating curriculum. She finally completed her Bachelor’s degree in Organization and Leadership Communication here at Dixie State College, proving educational goals are always attainable for those who want to put forth the effort.
Mace is a volunteer director and board member with the Roene B. DiFiore Center for Arts in Education, a center dedicated to bringing the arts into the lives of children; founder of AHA!, a critical thinking and service leadership non-profit organization; and a self-proclaimed learning addict. She defines a learning addiction as: attempting to learn information about so much “stuff” that one will never have the capacity to remember it all or use it all!
